Titanic Park- Opposite the main market of Uttarey, you will find a building that has been designed in the shape of a famous ship. Although the building is not open, it is an ideal spot for taking photographs.
Tenzing Hillary Memorial Park – Inaugurated in 2015 to enhance the appeal of Uttarey, the park is a must-visit destination despite the fact that the road leading to it may not be in great condition as of the writing of this article. The park offers a mesmerizing view of the area, and on a clear day, visitors can catch a glimpse of the breathtaking Kanchenjunga range. Additionally, visitors will find statues of two great climbers within the park.
Mainebass Waterfall – Located a short distance from Uttarey, a beautiful waterfall can be reached on foot. The waterfall is situated approximately 7 km from Uttarey town, and visitors must travel on the westbound road from Uttarey that leads to the trout farm. From the farm, a forested trail extends 5 km further to Mainebass Falls. Camping in the vicinity of the waterfall is also an option.
Singshore Suspension Bridge- The Singshore Bridge, situated midway between Dentam and Uttarey, spans 198 meters and plunges 220 meters in depth. As the second-highest suspension bridge in Asia, and the first of its kind in Sikkim as well as in India, it serves as a distinctive and novel tourist destination.
Kagyu Monastery- Not only is it a popular destination for sightseers, but the local people also hold this place of worship in high regard. Nestled amidst dense forests, the monastery features captivating wall paintings that may pique your interest. Additionally, visitors to the monastery can enjoy stunning views of Dentam peak and the river. The monastery is located atop a hill and is accessible by a 10-minute walk from Titanic park. One of the oldest monasteries in Sikkim, it was built in 1711, although the current building has been renovated and differs from the original structure.
The best time to visit Uttarey is during the summer season when the climate is pleasant. It is not advisable to visit this town during the winter months when temperatures drop below freezing levels. Another favorable time to visit this place is in October and November.
Uttarey, located in the West Sikkim district, marks the westernmost village in the area. Just a few hours’ treks from here lie the Nepal border. To reach Uttarey, most tourists first travel to the Rinchenpong area and then continue on the same highway that passes through Bermiok, Hee, and Dentam. Alternatively, visitors can take the route through Pelling, which also leads to Uttarey. Both roads converge near the Singshore bridge.
